Signs of Spring

“If we had a keen vision and feeling of all ordinary human life, it would be like hearing the grass grow and the squirrel’s heart beat, and we should die of that roar which lies on the other side of silence.”
~ George Eliot, Middlemarch: A Study of Provincial Life

Nice post. We have waited a long time to see the landscape come to life. Once again I am mowing, trimming, weeding and throwing outdoor parties – and I don’t mind a bit. Its good to get rid of the coat – enjoy the spring.

Thank you for sharing this quote. I haven’t read that classic from George Eliot yet but it sure makes me escape to a quieter place. I wonder what it would be like to hear the grass grow and a squirrel’s heart beat…
