About

This is our backyard, the new home of our old one which started as a photo blog on Blogger. This blog will contain photographs not only of our immediate backyard but of our bigger backyard, the world we live in.

My husband and I like growing vegetables in our own backyard and our girls like eating them. No, they don’t come out and work in the yard much anymore (they did when they were younger,  they’re typical teenagers now), but they do like to come out to sit in the shade once in a while. Just so they don’t get dirt under their nails. LOL!

We are quite proud of our little garden because we spend very little money on it, using mostly recycled materials to build the beds and trellises. We compost our yard waste (grass clippings and leaves) and our neighbors’ plus any kitchen scraps fit for the compost go in the pile too. Our compost pretty much consist of all the fertilizer we use. We don’t use plant foods or pesticides and try to grow our vegetables as organic as possible.  For the small investment, we get back a lot in return from our little garden.

We harvest enough vegetables and herbs to keep us stocked for the summer and part of the winter, and we still have plenty to share with our neighbors, most of them senior citizens who can’t maintain a garden themselves and appreciate the fresh produce.

I hope to find more time to document our garden and document some of the methods we use to grow an organic garden in the city.
